Veteran Banners around the square

Heartfelt Fundraiser

In March 2024, Girard Mainstreet launched a special fundraiser, offering community members the chance to purchase personalized veteran banners for $200 each. The initiative aimed to celebrate local heroes and required participants to provide photos of their veterans for a meaningful tribute. With only 22 spots available, the response was enthusiastic and swift. The original goal was to have the banners up by the Fourth of July, but the project faced delays due to a variety of uncontrollable factors. Ensuring the highest quality of images for each veteran and their family was a top priority, and this required additional time. The extra effort was crucial to make sure each banner met the standards of excellence deserving of our honored veterans.

The banners went up!

As of July 31, 2024, the banners are proudly displayed around the Square. The display will remain for the next three years, serving as a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by these remarkable individuals and fostering community pride and remembrance. This visual tribute not only honors the veterans but also strengthens the town’s collective appreciation for their service.

We are now including 6 more banners.

The fundraiser going forward

After the three-year display period, the banners will be retired and returned to the veterans’ families, ensuring their legacies are preserved. Girard Mainstreet plans to continue this meaningful project by seeking out 27 new veterans for future banners. This ongoing program aims to perpetually recognize and honor local veterans, keeping their memories alive and inspiring future generations to value their sacrifices. The veteran banners around Girard Square stand as a powerful testament to the community’s enduring commitment to celebrating and remembering its heroes.
